DEPARTMENT INFORMATION //
The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools in all areas regarding Human Resources along with the responsibilities relating to curriculum and instruction. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for implementing and overseeing all initiatives related to improving the academic performance of all students in the Big Walnut Local Schools. The Assistant Superintendent works with the directors and supervisors in the areas of Special Education, Gifted Education, Curriculum, Technology and Data Management.
DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITY //
Represents the Superintendent at school and community functions when necessary.
Develops, interprets and implements the district's certificated personnel program; coordinates the functions of the certificated personnel department with other departments; and serves as a resource person in providing technical advice and assistance regarding certificated personnel matters.
Supervises staff members assigned to the certificated personnel department; is responsible for their selection, inservice training and evaluation; and prepares and administers the departmental budget.
Develops and coordinates certificated staffing procedures; maintains a position control system to assist in projecting certificated staffing needs; and processes transfer, leave and retirement requests.
Work with the Curriculum Director to alignment of all district curriculums to state standards and national best practices.
Insure that district curriculum and instructional practices meet the needs of English Language Learners, Special Education student and Gifted and Talented Students.
Oversee district efforts to apply for state, federal and private grant opportunities that will enhance the district's instructional offerings and practices.
Insure integration of technology into all curriculum and instruction areas.
Oversee district efforts to differentiate instruction for students.
Collaborate with other district administrators to best meet the needs of schools.
Visit schools regularly to discern the implementation and effect of instructional practices aimed at improving learning outcomes for all children.
Work with the directors to oversee the design and implementation of programs and practices intended to eliminate the achievement gap.
Insure that district curriculum reflects the knowledge and skills required for the 21st century.
Supports the use of comprehensive data for the purpose of making instructional decisions.
Helps develop accountability mechanisms for measuring the performance of curriculum and instruction programs and staff.
Performs additional duties as delegated by the Superintendent of Schools.
