Presently Mr. Buskirk serves as the Dublin City School District Assistant Treasurer, a position he has held for 4 years. Prior to that, he was the financial accountant for the district for 6 years. Before beginning his career in school finance, he was an Assistant Auditor for the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office for 3 years. Mr. Buskirk received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Spring Arbor University in Spring Arbor, Michigan, and a master’s degree majoring in business administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Mr. Buskirk is a member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials and the Ohio Government Finance Officers Association. He has been a Big Walnut LSD resident for 10 years and lives in Sunbury with his wife Amanda, his two daughters, ages 8 and 5, and his 2-year-old son.
The Big Walnut Board of Education received assistance in the hiring process from K-12 Business Consulting and the Ohio Association of School Business Officials. After developing a Treasurer Search Profile that was based on information provided by the board of education members, community members, teachers, administrators, and support staff, a state-wide search was undertaken to find Big Walnut’s next treasurer/CFO. The board screened and vetted the credentials of several potential candidates. Three (3) finalists were selected for final interview on August 30th from 12 official applicants. Following a detailed and thorough interview process that involved district staff and community members, the Big Walnut Board of Education selected Mr. Buskirk.
“Jeremy impressed the board with his knowledge of school finance and operations that he gained while serving Dublin City School District,” said Andy Wecker, board president. “He has a working grasp of bond issues, health insurance, TIF Agreements and other school business matters that made him an ideal candidate for our district. Plus he has a vested interest in the school district with 2 children enrolled with us now and a 3rd attending in a few years. Jeremy has many reasons to see Big Walnut succeed and excel academically.
“We are fortunate and excited to have him join our team. He was raised with small-town values in northwest Ohio, but he brings to Big Walnut that experience he gained in a growing community like Dublin,” Wecker said.
“We listened to our staff and community members in our search and interview process,” said Allison Fagan, board member. “Jeremy has lived here in our community for 10 years and has children attending our schools. In some ways, Jeremy chose us before the Board of Education chose him for our Treasurer/CFO. His knowledge and experience in school finance will be a big asset for our district.”
“I am very pleased and honored to have been selected as the district’s next Treasurer/CFO,” Jeremy Buskirk said. “I want to thank the Board of Education for the trust it has placed in me. While I have been recruited for other positions in central Ohio over the past few years, I have declined to speak to those districts because in my heart Big Walnut was the only district where I have ever considered being a Treasurer. My family and I love the district and community. It not only is our home, but it has always felt like home to my wife and me. I will work tirelessly to serve our students and taxpayers in this role.”
