A Message From Our Superintendent
Immediately following the high school situation this morning, we had an issue at the middle school. Within a total of 40 minutes, a statement was found on the wall of a middle school bathroom, police investigated the issue and found no credibility to the threat and gave the all clear. We are grateful for the partnership with the Sunbury Police Department and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in resolving this issue so quickly. Students were held in their classes during the investigation. The district was about to communicate with parents regarding the “stay in place” when we were given the all clear and classes resumed.
We appreciate our students and staff members acting quickly and staying calm. We know these issues can be stressful, but our school community put our safety plans into action this morning without hesitation. At Big Walnut Local Schools we care about the safety of our students and staff. We take all threats or attempts to induce panic very seriously and will pursue all levels of consequences for any such actions. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these complex situations and keep you informed as quickly as possible. During the event, our first priority is our students and their safety.
Again, we encourage all residents to be partners in keeping our school community safe. Should you ever hear, see or suspect something, please contact our school administration or make an anonymous report by calling or texting our Safer Schools Ohio hotline at 1-844-SAFEROH. Again, that number is 1-844-723-3764.
